Louis Vuitton Exhibit at Musee Carnaval in the Marais - Louis Vuitton began as a brand through the engineering and development of new suitcases that could better manage transportation of the delicate and complex garments of fashion-forward Parisian women. This was an exhibit that chronicled the evolution of the brand and its products from its early establishment in Paris. My particular favorite was a two piece set commissioned for a project by Damien Hirst. Modeled after trunks created for the Red Cross in 1914, the pieces hold over 150 surgical instruments in the green velvet casing, and the outside of the black trunks are embellished with butterflies and psyche and vanity silver skulls.
Here are some photos from my trip to Le Musee de la Chasse et de la Nature (hunting and nature museum) this past weekend. The collection of taxidermied animals, antique hunting rifles and game paintings are housed in a hotel particulier in the marais. It’s a small museum with plenty of couches and few visitors - perfect for lounging. I think it’s safe to say this one of my new favorite spots in Paris.
Here are some pictures from a recent trip to le sommet de la tour eiffel.
In lieu of yesterdays oh-so-festive and American holiday, and that today Paris saw its first snowfall of the season, it is only appropriate that Christmas-music-listening commence immediately. It’s a bit of a family tradition to make somewhat unconventional Christmas playlists in the Pophal household, and for my own personal playlist this year was certainly no exception. I was completely unable to find christmas music recorded by my favorite chanteuses français, Birkin and Hardy, but I think I found a few other gems that make up for it (rockabilly xmas and Burroughs short stories, anyone?)
